Jody Brown

Jody Brown brings over 33 years of collegiate and international coaching and playing experience to Carolina Edge Volleyball. Jody is currently in his 2nd season as head coach at North Carolina Central University.

Prior to his tenure at NCCU, Jody spent 18 seasons as the head indoor and sand volleyball coach for Florida Atlantic University. While at FAU, Jody led the team to three NCAA tournament appearances, three conference championships, and produced two All-Americans and well over 140 academic all-conference student-athletes. He was named A-Sun Coach of the year twice during his time at FAU.

Also at Florida Atlantic, Jody implemented a national tournament qualifying Division I sand volleyball program. The program captured one of the first collegiate championship tournaments in Siesta Key, Florida and placed its top team in the very first AVCA collegiate national sand volleyball championships in Mobile, Alabama garnering a top-10 finish.

In his extremely limited free time, Jody was one of the youth development directors in Australia. Jody’s playing experience includes 18 years of indoor and sand volleyball at both the collegiate and international levels. Jody is also the owner and president of the Institute of Volleyball Performance, another club that was previously based in South Florida.

Jody and his wife Dr. Michelle Brown live in Chapel Hill with their son Kaja.

Emma Celentano

Emma Celentano is currently the assistant volleyball coach at North Carolina Central University with fellow Carolina Edge coaches Jody Brown and Jonathan Paulk. Her on-court responsibilities with NC Central primarily include training the defense and serve receive. Emma’s off-court responsibilities range from recruiting to developing the team’s conditioning program.

Emma graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science in addition to Coaching Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her education is put to good use each and every day, and she couldn’t have dreamed of a better start to her career than at NC Central and in starting Carolina Edge. Emma is continuing to pursue being a Division I head coach by obtaining her Master’s from NCCU in Athletic Administration.

She has this to say about coaching the 14’s this season, “I spent my first two years coaching club with the 14s, and I remember that age being very high energy and eager to learn. I’m excited to be going back! I look forward to the challenge of teaching this team systems and techniques that will prepare them for higher level volleyball as they move onto high school and their recruiting processes. My team is most certainly going to be very competitive and have a lot of fun!”

Lastly, Emma’s favorite athlete is Roger Federer, and she has an unhealthy love for chocolate milk and LuluLemon. If she was home more, she would definitely want a dog; and she could eat breakfast food for every meal of the day, every day.

Jonathan Paulk

JP is currently an Assistant Coach at North Carolina Central University where his primary on court responsibilities include training the outside hitters and focusing on offensive and blocking structure. Off the court JP’s primary responsibilities include recruiting and video exchange. JP is annually invited to coach at collegiate camps including UNC, West Point, NC State, and NCCU.

JP is a graduate of NC State with a BS in Accounting. While at State, he was the president of the Men’s Club Volleyball Team and was voted honorable mention to the NCVF National Tournament Team in Kansas City as a setter. JP won the 2016 Collegiate Beach National Championships for NCSVA in Santa Monica, California and earned his AA rating with a win the following day for the California Beach Volleyball Association.

JP is a true believer in pushing players to learn higher level technique and tactics at younger ages. He wants to expose athletes to systems and tactics that push them to grow intellectually and creatively within volleyball. JP strives to maintain a high-intensity and competition filled practice every time he steps on the court.
